The portable solar does not seem to work with my rooftop solarUpdated 8 months ago

First off, rest assured that the AIR GEAR Portable Solar Kit will work in conjunction with your factory-installed rooftop solar. It does not prevent the rooftop panels from operating. If you're not seeing any solar charge on the Airstream's on-board display, there are two possible reasons:

1. The on-board display in your Airstream may show only the charge supplied by your factory-installed rooftop panels. For more on this topic, see our Help Center article.

2. The batteries may not be discharged enough to need power from both sets of panels (rooftop and portable). Our Portable Solar Kit is supplying all the power that the batteries can accept at this moment, so the charge controller for the rooftop panels is shutting off. In other words, what you are experiencing is normal.

If the rooftop panels were getting more sun than the portable ones, the situation would reverse. In other words, the rooftop panels would charge the batteries and our Portable Solar Kit might stop charging. Each charge controller makes its own "decision" about whether it is needed, and how much power to supply.

It's all dependent on the amount of sun each set of panels is getting, and the state of the batteries. If the batteries are deeply discharged, or if each set of panels could only get partial sun, then both sets of panels will provide charge to the best of their ability. In sum, the charging status of each set of panels will change according to conditions.
