Miscellaneous questions about SoreinUpdated 7 days ago

QUESTION: Is the Sorein Power Station or Extra Battery waterproof?

ANSWER: No, the units should be kept under cover to protect them from rain or snow. In 2026, AIR GEAR will have a waterproof cover available.

If you cover the unit, be sure not to block the cooling fans on the sides.

Some configurations of the Sorein Power Station will fit underneath an motorhome or trailer.

QUESTION: How can the Sorein be transported in a truck?

ANSWER: The Sorein modules should be separated and protected from damage. AIR GEAR offers a set of padded carry bags for this purpose. These carry bags also make moving individual modules much easier.

QUESTION: Can the Sorein Power Station be used in a truck bed, lying on its back?

ANSWER: Yes, as long as access to the outlets, inlets, and cooling fans is not blocked.

QUESTION: Can the Sorein Power Station be recharged from a DC-DC charger while in motion?

ANSWER: Yes, as long as access to the XT60 inlet and cooling fans is not blocked.

QUESTION: Can a CarGenerator be used to charge the Sorein Power Station?

ANSWER: The CarGenerator will charge a Sorein Power Station but it won't be the most efficient way to go. That's because the CarGenerator is an inverter, which converts DC power from your truck's alternator to AC power. Therefore, the power will undergo two conversions

  1.  The CarGenerator converts power from DC to AC
  2.  The Sorein Power Station converts the power back to DC to charge its own batteries.

In each change, there's some power lost.

It's also possible that the Sorein Power Station will cause a CarGenerator to overload. This is because CarGenerator is rated for a maximum of 1,000 Watts, and the Sorein Power Station will attempt to charge at up to 1,800 Watts when plugged into a standard AC power outlet.

A better way to charge from a vehicle is to install a DC-DC charger on the vehicle, and connect that to the XT60 input on the Sorein Power Station. This way the power will remain DC (in other words, no conversions will be required).

QUESTION: How can the XT60 plug be used as a power outlet?

ANSWER: The output function of the XT60 plug requires a dedicated cable to support it. At this time, Sorein hasn't made that cable available, so the output feature of the XT60 plug is not supported.

QUESTION: Can a Sorein Power Station be used to charge an Electric Vehicle (EV) such as a Tesla, Ford F-150 Lightning, or Rivian?

ANSWER: No. The car's charger will detect that it is not connected to a utility power and refuse to operate. Portable power stations and generators with inverters use what is called a "floating neutral", and EV chargers will not work with that. The symptom will be that the EV charger shows an error and may say that there is an open ground.

We do not recommend using the Sorein power station to charge an EV. Even if it did work, the amount of power in a 5 kWh power station would only add a few miles of range to most EVs, and charging would be very slow.

QUESTION:  Can the Sorein Power Station be charged with an extension cord?

ANSWER: Yes, as long as the extension cord is rated to carry at least 1875 Watts. That rating requires a 12 AWG (12 gauge, or 12/3) extension cord minimum.

If you have to use a cord longer than 50 feet, we recommend using a 10 AWG cord.

QUESTION: Can the charging speed be reduced, when plugged into a wall outlet?

ANSWER: Yes. The charging speed can be reduced to 750 Watts by changing the charging mode from "Super-Fast" to "Silent" in the Energy Keeper app.

QUESTION: Is a surge protector needed when using a Sorein Power Station?

ANSWER: You don't need a surge protector on the output plugs of the Sorein Power Station. The power station has many internal protections to ensure that it delivers reliable and safe power.

You should not use an EMS (such as the Progressive EMS we sell) with Sorein, as the EMS will prevent power from flowing to the RV. For more information, see this Help Center article.
