Compartment lock alignment problemsUpdated 7 months ago
If your AIR GEAR Compartment Lock Upgrade is looking like the one in the photo below, or the latch is difficult to close:
The solution is easy. First, check that the lowest nut on the back side of the lock is tight.
When the nut is too loose, it allows excess movement in the latch mechanism, and this can result in the latch not closing well.
Please watch the video below for an explanation of what to do.
Second, you may need to adjust the cam a little further "out" (meaning looser, or closer to the end of the threaded post) so that the door closes a little more loosely.
Sometimes customers adjust the cam so that the door is pulled tightly shut. This forces the cam into a slightly askew position, which causes the tumbler alignment to be off.
You don't need to compress the door gasket in order to make a rainproof seal. It's normal for the door to have a little movement in-and-out when you press on it. As long as the door is making soft contact with the seal all the way around the perimeter of the door, it should be OK.
