Can I connect 2 panels/portable solar kits to get more power?Updated 5 days ago

The Solar Port on an Airstream (sometimes incorrectly called "the Zamp port") is limited to a maximum of 200 watts input. For this reason we don't recommend connecting more than one AIR GEAR Portable Solar Kit to this port.

However, you can separately connect two kits to one Airstream, using both the Solar Port and the 7-way cable (the cable that connects to the tow vehicle when you're towing).

This solution works for Airstream trailers made from 2017 onward, with factory-installed Solar Port on the A-frame near the spare tire handle (except 2023 and later Trade Wind models).

Connect one AIR GEAR Portable Solar Kit through the Solar Port, and another AIR GEAR Portable Solar Kit through the 7-way cable. Each of these connection points is connected to the battery, and each can handle a 200 watt solar panel.

On Airstreams 2024 and later, you may need to remove the fuse for the Solar Port (found in the battery box) to upgrade it from 10 amps to 20 amps. Replacing the fuse is very simple. Please download these instructions, which include images to show you where the fuse holder is in the Airstream's battery box.

Note that the amount of net charge you get from the two panels will vary according to sunshine, the current state of charge in the batteries, and other factors.

Portable Power Stations

You can connect two AIR GEAR Portable Solar Kits, using a Y-cable, to the XT60 input of the portable power station, as long as the combined input doesn't exceed the manufacturer's recommendation. For more information on that, read this article.
