Work-around for trailers without 12 volt DC power available at the 7-way plugUpdated 3 days ago
AIR GEAR MiniLink will not work on trailers that have a DC-DC converter, or other device that prevents 12 volt DC power from being available at the 7-way plug. This includes the Airstream Tradewind models.
For these situations, there is a possible work-around. Instead of using the AIR GEAR MiniLink with the included 7-way connector, the connector can be cut off and replaced with a SAE solar port (2-pin) connector. (See example below.)
This SAE connector would plug into the solar port on the trailer, and accomplish the same task as the 7-way connector. The solar port is usually connected directly to the trailer battery on most trailers, so it should supply 12 volt DC power.
Warnings
- Verify that the solar port has 12 volt DC power available before making any modifications.
- Use a voltmeter to ensure that the voltage polarity is correct. Reverse polarity will destroy the MiniLink.
- This modification would be at the owner's risk, since AIR GEAR cannot be responsible for products that have been modified.
