Solutions to common AIRLoq installation issuesUpdated 6 hours ago

Metal backup key can only be removed in the "locked" position

In normal operation, the metal backup key will come out in the 12 o'clock position, whether the deadbolt is extended or retracted.

If the metal backup key will only come out of the lock when it is in the "locked" position, it's because the spindle is installed 180° off where it should be. Disassemble the lock completely and reverse the spindle position, then re-assemble. Be sure that the deadbolt and the battery box are in the retracted (unlocked) position when you re-assemble.

Manual locking knob will not turn

There are a few possible causes of this issue:

  1. Spindle was installed in the wrong position. SOLUTION: Disassemble the lock and double-check the spindle orientation.
  2. Mounting screws are too tight. SOLUTION: Slightly loosen the screws until they are just compressing the spring washers.
  3. White electrical cable is interfering with the mortise. SOLUTION: Disassemble the interior portion and re-route the white cable.

White battery box will not fit over the mounting plate

  • Make sure the white cable is not interfering. Re-route as needed.
  • Ensure that the deadbolt is fully retracted, and that the manual locking knob is in the "unlocked" position.

Battery box does not sit flat on the door. Battery side is lifted off the door slightly.

This is a result of over-tightening the mounting screws. It will not affect the operation of the MiniLink, but if you would like to make the battery box fit more flat to the door, disassemble the lock and correct any minor bend in the mounting plate.

When re-assembling, be sure that the mounting screws are only tightened until they are just compressing the spring washers.

Existing mortise in Airstream door doesn't work or is damaged.

The mortise is part of the deadbolt mechanism. It is built into the door. If the existing mortise is bent, damaged, jammed, or hard to move, you may need to install a replacement mortise before you can use AIRLoq.

AIRLoq does not include a mortise. You can buy a complete replacement Tri-Mark deadbolt from various Airstream parts suppliers. This complete replacement will include a new mortise.

Replacing the mortise requires drilling out and replacing two large rivets. If you aren't confident about doing this repair, we suggest taking the Airstream to a qualified repair shop.

What level of skill is required to install AIRLoq? How long does it take?

AIRLoq installation involves removing and replacing several screws, as well as attention to details. It's important to read and follow the instructions in the User Guide. You can install AIRLoq yourself if you feel comfortable with these tasks, or you can hire any competent technician.

Installation by a professional should take less than 30 minutes.
