Deadbolt doesn't fully extend after installing AIRLoqUpdated 6 hours ago

The problem: AIRLoq is able to actuate the deadbolt, but the deadbolt does not fully engage the striker pocket. The door can be opened even when the deadbolt is supposed to be engaged (locked).

The cause: Either the door or the deadbolt mortise is mis-aligned. This causes the deadbolt to hit the edge of the striker pocket, which prevents it from fully engaging.

A complication: The deadbolt may have engaged with the original Tri-Mark lock (before AIRLoq installation), but AIRLoq is unsuccessful. This causes users to think that the AIRLoq is causing the problem.

This happens because  AIRLoq is unable to force a misaligned deadbolt into the striker pocket. The electric motor in the AIRLoq is not as strong as a human hand. As a result, AIRLoq can sometimes reveal a slight misalignment that wasn't noticed before.

AIRLoq does not change the trajectory or operation of the deadbolt. It cannot cause a deadbolt to stop working properly.

Solutions:

  1. Check the deadbolt and mortise for damage, with the door open. If the deadbolt is loose (more than 1/16" horizontal play), the mortise is likely damaged. It will need to be repaired or replaced. See the video below for details on how to check the deadbolt for proper play.
  2. Check the alignment of the door. The deadbolt should be easy to engage using the manual lock on the interior side of the AIRLoq, or with the key, when the door is closed normally. If the door must be slammed or pressed on before the deadbolt will engage manually, the door is misaligned. This condition must be corrected before AIRLoq can work.
  3. Check the alignment of the deadbolt. Apply a small amount of lipstick or grease pencil to the deadbolt. Then close and lock the deadbolt manually. The lipstick will leave a mark that shows where the deadbolt may be rubbing against or hitting the striker pocket. The alignment of the deadbolt or door should be corrected so that the deadbolt goes into the center of the striker pocket, without hitting or rubbing against it.
