Can rooftop solar panels be used to recharge a power station?Updated 3 days ago
Can you connect a power station to the solar panels that are already on the roof of your trailer?
The Sorein Power Station can be recharged with any solar panels between 50 watts and 1000 watts, as long as they can be connected by a female XT60 output plug.
Unfortunately, factory-installed rooftop solar panels on RVs usually don't have any type of output plug. Rooftop solar panels are usually wired directly to a charge controller inside the RV, and then to the onboard batteries.
As a result:
- Rooftop solar only charges the batteries in your RV.
- Your RV would need custom wiring to use the factory-installed rooftop solar panels for charging external appliances like a power station. The on-board charge controller would have to be bypassed, and an output port would need to be added.
However, you can use portable solar panels to charge the Sorein Power Station.
- The AIR GEAR 200 Watt Portable Solar Kit includes the appropriate female XT60 adapter and can be used to charge most power stations, including Sorein.
- You can also connect two of these kits with our Y-connector, for up to 400 watts of charging power. For details, see this Help Center article.
